For this first AI writing experiment: try “talking” or chatting with AI about something.
I’m intentionally being vague about what to talk/chat with an AI about. As we’ll discuss/read about, some people are chatting with AIs as a substitute/supplement to therapy or love interests, as a brainstorming exercise, to get advice, etc., but users also just talk with AI to work on some kind of problem. I’d encourage you to experiment with both different AIs and with different approaches. For example, Ethan Mollick’s introduction to using AI includes an interesting example of using voice mode with ChatGPT,Links to an external site. something I’d encourage you to try (if you are using the “not free” version of ChatGPT, that is).
Two things I will note here. First, you should talk/chat with AI about something you are willing to share with the class– so probably not your deepest and darkest secrets. Second, use with caution! As we will discuss in our readings, some people find themselves in quite intense and probably not healthy “relationships” with AI that are probably best to avoid.
Be sure to keep track of your prompts and to save the conversations to these prompts. Check the calendar for details, but you need to write a post in the discussion describing your experiences with your AI conversations.
