48 Hours Without AI

Jacobs, A.J. “48 Hours without A.I. – The New York Times.” NYTimes, 28 Oct. 2025, www.nytimes.com/2025/10/28/style/48-hours-without-ai.html

The author of this article wanted to see what it would be like to spend two days without using AI, knowing that it would change his routine of how he does things. He thought it would be easy, considering he thought he could go along his day without certain things, but Jacobs would soon say “What I didn’t expect was that my attempt to avoid all interactions with A.I. and machine learning would affect nearly every part of my life — what I ate, what I wore, how I got around” (Jacobs 2).

The overall idea of the article goes into whether or not AI is something that is taking away someone’s freedom or not, or is it to make our lives better. Throughout the days, things that you wouldn’t expect to be controlled by AI, such as social media timelines, made it difficult for Jacobs to figure out what to do while going on his phone. “Checking my email was also a no-no. Gmail uses machine learning to weed out spam. I put my iPhone in a drawer” (Jacobs 15).
