Agnellini, Francesco. “More than Half of New Articles on the Internet Are Being Written by Ai – Is Human Writing Headed for Extinction?” The Conversation, 24 Nov. 2025, theconversation.com/more-than-half-of-new-articles-on-the-internet-are-being-written-by-ai-is-human-writing-headed-for-extinction-268354.
This article states that according to a recent Graphite survey, over 50% of online articles are currently written by AI. While this number seems concerning on the surface, it is important to keep a balanced perspective – this is not all good or all bad. The truth is somewhere in the middle. When looking at the content Graphite was surveying, most AI written articles are general-interest writing such as news headlines, product reviews, and how-to guides. The bulk of creative and expository work is still being completed by humans. Even so, there is still the question of authenticity and credibility. Can people tell when an article is written by AI and does it matter? It is also important to consider the different ways AI is being used – it is not all for creating content. It can also be used like a co-editor to help with revision and clarity, not generating original ideas. Nonetheless, this makes human voices more important than ever. As AI takes over rote writing tasks, the work of humans becomes more valuable since it will be increasing more rare.
I enjoyed the perspective of this article since it focused not on the doom and gloom of AI and writing, but it did let the audience know what is at stake. Even with such a high percentage of articles being written by AI, there is still a lot of content being written by humans. Also, it is important to consider that this could also mean that there is more content in general – perhaps there are 100 articles, 50 of which are written by AI whereas before there would be 75 articles all written by humans. This means that AI took over 25 articles. These numbers are all hypothetical, but the idea is worth noting. As technology and writing technology advance, we get more content. Some of the content will be bad, filler work. It’s important to reserve the meaningful work for humans, which it seems is still the standard.
