Walmart says customers will soon be able to use ChatGPT to shop

Wilkie, Christina. “Walmart, ChatGPT Team up for Shopping.” NBC News, 14 Oct. 2025, www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/walmart-chatgpt-shopping-partnership-rcna237513.

Recently, Walmart has announced its collaboration with OpenAI, hoping to integrate ChatGPT into online shopping. Although there aren’t any specifics of what the partnership would include, Walmart is urging customers not to be surprised if the Walmart shopping app changes drastically. As one of the biggest chains in the United States, Walmart has been one of the biggest advocates for incorporting GenAI into their business ventures.

This article was an interesting read because it broke down some of the complicated factors within the merger. It’s obvious that Walmart is implementing GenAI to not only ‘assist customers’ but also for financial gain. At the end of the day, I can see many perks of incorporating a chatbot/recommender of sorts, but I fear that these private companies already know too much about us.
