Smalley speaks about how Character.Ai will be banning those under 18 from using its chatbots. Due to being sued last year for the death of a 14 year old, they have been wanting to bring in more measures to protecting those who use their website. “Character.AI said it will be using age assurance methods it has developed in house to “ensure users receive the right experience for their age.” The company will combine its age assurance methods with tools created by Persona” (Smalley 4). Character Ai wants to make sure those who are using the chatbots are safe against being manipulated, and to make sure the bots are working correctly so that the open-ended conversations won’t affect teens.
