Elon Musk and xAI have debuted a new online encyclopedia meant to be less biased or “woke” than Wikipedia. In addition to containing pages cloned straight from Wikipedia, Grokipedia hosts far-right conspiracy theories, misinformation, with overtly racist and transphobic rhetoric. Examples of this include the “race and intelligence” page, where Grokipedia claims some races are smarter than others. Grok is of course famous on X for being easily manipulated and having obvious directives from Elon Musk to hold certain beliefs that aren’t truthful.
I recently learned that xAI employs far fewer safety officers than other comparable AI companies like OpenAI or Google. It’s so interesting to watch the way Elon Musk navigates AI when there’s videos of him less than 10 years ago urging people to be very careful when creating artificial intelligence. Now he wants to race forward whether it’s safe or not.
