Jackson, Hooroo. “The Heaviest Machine”. Post-Scarcity Cinema: Essays on AI Film Theory, 13 July 2025. https://hooroojackson.com/the-heaviest-machine/
For anyone wondering what the film buffs are getting up to with AI, look no further than Hooroo Jackson. I must acknowledge my personal disagreement with Jackson about almost every opinion he holds about film and apologize if that comes through here. Jackson has a lot to say about how the current film industry is “analogue”, and that creativity is forcibly filtered by “heavy” technology, taking away creative control. AI film, comparatively, is “weightless”, and Jackson calls pushback against AI film “elitist”. Jackson has created multiple feature length AI generated films, which you can watch for free on his YouTube channel or perhaps recommend to people you hate.
Jackson wishes, often and explicitly, for the collaborative aspect of filmmaking to be destroyed. He wishes to see his creative vision displayed unedited by such pesky intrusions as other human beings. Is filmmaking as it is right now accessible? Maybe not, but Hooroo Jackson’s films make me think that maybe it doesn’t need to be.
