Johannssen, A., & Chukhrova, N. (2025, September 30). The crucial role of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) in improving health care management. Health care management science. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12535480/
This piece follows a somewhat similar theme to one of our graduate book reviews earlier this past week on the use of AI within health care institutions. Johannssen and Chukhrova describe that the integration of AI into medical practices has shown promising results thus far, it still falls short in the realm of explicability and transparency. To that end, they suggest that XAI is integrated under the purview of Health Care Management Sciences (HCMS).
To this end, Johannssen and Chukhrova argue that implementation under HCMS must place manage a balance of explicability and predictive accuracy, wherein all affected stakeholders are not kept in the dark on implementation and the results of XAI’s use in the field. These developments could operate in a number of fields within the health care sector, warranting further discussion in the final writeup of the report on my experiences reading this piece and others like it.
