Tech Buzz. “Google Turns NYC Subway into AI Art Gallery with Veo.” The Tech Buzz, 13 November 2025, https://www.techbuzz.ai/articles/google-turns-nyc-subway-into-ai-art-gallery-with-veo.
Google launched a collaborative AI art initiative called “Imagine If…”, integrated into public subway systems across New York City. Travelers have access to scanable QR codes on advertisement screens, where they then submit their dream prompt for AI creation. This article argues that Google and Veo’s collaboration is an attempt to make AI art accessible to the community. Veo has partnered with local New York artists to select specific AI submissions from the public to turn into artist-produced AI art advertisements. This project encourages creativity and community through interactive collaboration, but raises a question for critics of what can truly be identified as ‘art’ when AI is involved.
What stood out to me most about this AI art initiative was the community accessibility and opportunity for creative expression. I thought the placement in public transportation was clever and a likely time for commuters to have their phones out. This article leaves some future implications unanswered, as there is a question of whether AI-generated video is meant to replace human artists’ work in the public. As long as AI art is not so normalized that it replaces human art, I see how AI initiatives like this encourage collaboration and creativity.
