Kharpal discusses the tech giant Alibaba, and how it has grown since 1999. It has its hands in almost every category of consumerism in China, and its wealth cannot be overstated enough here. After it had an IPO cancellation in 2020, they were forced to tighten regulations and pay billions of dollars in fines. While all of this was happening, they restructured into the AI sector, which massively improved business. They were silently investing into AI, and have now come out as one of the top giants of AI in China.
This is a story of the company Alibaba, and how it has surpassed its old ways for new. Since they started to invest into AI early, they are now reaping the benefits of it. But, Alibaba is one of the largest companies in the world, and is akin to Amazon. While I am not sad that they had to pay fines, I think it is interesting to see the genius behind such large conglomerates.
