Kaur, Dashveenjit. “Qwen Ai Hits 10m+ Downloads as Alibaba Disrupts the AI Market.” AI News, 24 Nov. 2025, www.artificialintelligence-news.com/news/alibaba-qwen-ai-app-10-million-downloads/.
Alibaba’s Qwen AI app surpassed 10 million downloads within a week of its public beta release. Reports note that this adoption pace is faster than the early growth of other well known AI products such as ChatGPT, Sora, and DeepSeek. The app was relaunched under the unified Qwen brand after Alibaba consolidated several earlier mobile AI tools. It is powered by the open source Qwen model family from Alibaba Cloud and supports a wide range of tasks including research, writing, image creation, and presentation generation. Alibaba describes Qwen as a full AI assistant rather than a simple chatbot to highlight its broad functionality.
The announcement of the download milestone boosted Alibaba’s Hong Kong listed shares by more than five percent. The strong response signals growing demand in China for a domestically developed alternative to Western generative AI services, which remain restricted or limited in availability. Alibaba also plans to expand Qwen with agentic features that can help users complete real world tasks in areas like shopping, mapping, food delivery, and education.
This rapid uptake is important because it shows how quickly the Chinese AI ecosystem is advancing. It also reflects rising competition in global AI development where regional models are becoming more capable and widely adopted.
