Reuters. “Australia sues Microsoft over AI-link subscription price hikes.” Reuters, October 27, 2025. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/australia-takes-microsoft-court-says-it-misled-27-million-customers-2025-10-26/
Reuters reports on here about the new case that has come about, with Australia moving to sue Microsoft, in which they accuse the company of being misleading to its users when it came to bundled options of their services. Australia is alleging that Microsoft was bundling 365 with Copilot without outright saying this. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission stepped in and alleged that in October of 2024, Microsoft was suggesting to their customers that they were required to upgrade their plans, which included the Microsoft AI Copilot. According to this article, the annual cost for Microsoft 365 after Copilot was added went up 45%, with the family plan increasing at 29%.
This article was interesting because it shows that people are starting to push back on AI integration, especially when it is done in a covert way. I think Microsoft needs to answer for this, and I am glad to see Australia taking some initiative and bringing along the facts. While I think this is an important lawsuit that should come to light, I personally feel that Microsoft is going to do anything they can to sweep this under the rug and settle with Australia.
